How PCOS Symptoms Can Lead to Depression and Anxiety and How You Can Overcome It

The symptoms of PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) are devastating to some women. The severity of the symptoms can vary from mild to extreme. If you or someone you know has this disorder, then you know how the feelings of embarrassment and low self esteem can take a toll on a person.

PCOS is caused by a hormonal imbalance and occurs when a woman has an excessive amount of male hormones. Women who have this disorder will have symptoms of male pattern baldness or thinning hair, excessive hair growth on the face, chest, stomach or back, acne, infertility, pelvic pain, irregular or missed periods and weight gain. Some women have several of the symptoms while others may have only one or two.

It is bad enough for women to suffer with the pain, but for women who have  baldness, excessive hair growth or acne it can become devastating. Many women become depressed and self conscious because of their looks. They may feel unattractive around their husbands and boyfriends because they think they look more masculine than feminine. A lot of women will have anxiety attacks when they have to go out in public. They prefer to stay at home most of the time because of the fear of ridicule and rejection. Their depression and anxiety only gets worse and some may even have suicidal thoughts.

Treatment options include medications, surgery and natural treatments. Natural remedies work wonders for women with PCOS because not only are they treating the symptoms, but they are understanding the disorder and learning how to manage and eliminate the symptoms forever.
